OM 1-1 Montpellier : OM rescues the draw
The Olympic starting eleven
To face Montpellier, André Villas-Boas has not made any changes in his starting eleven. The same team that won in Monaco (3-4) was renewed, still lining up as a 4-3-3-. After a very good match in the Principality, Valère Germain was again named as a starter on the right side of the Olympique attack. The midfield trio Sanson-Strootman-Lopez was kept. And the same was true with the defence, with Sarr on the right, Kamara and Gonzalez making up the central hinge and Amavi on the left side.
Gonzalez's injury
While OM had some very good chances in the first five minutes of the match, they faced a major blow with the injury of Alvaro Gonzalez. Following contact with Steve Mandanda, then a clearance, the Spaniard was hit in the right leg. He tried to continue the game but the discomfort was too great. Alvaro Gonzalez gave way to Duje Caleta-Car on seven minutes.
So many opportunities for OM
Payet's free-kick from the first minute, Sanson's lob from a distance, Lopez's shot slammed by Rulli, OM created many clear chances in the first half that they failed to achieve. Despite a possession that was largely to their advantage, the Olympians were surprised by Mollet's cross and Bouna Sarr unfortunately pushed the ball deep into his goal. Shortly before, OM had been warned and with the help of the VAR, Delort's goal was refused. The same was true in the second half, with the Montpellier striker scoring but his goal was denied because of an offside position. OM had a tense end with Boubacar Kamara's dismissal following an altercation with Jordan Ferri (who was also sent off). In stoppage time, Dimitri Payet was also given a red card.
Germain equals for OM
After many attempts, OM were finally rewarded through Valère Germain. Radonjic, who came into play a few minutes earlier, saw his cross blocked, but Germain was at the ready for the follow-up and allowed OM to level the score. A well-deserved goal for the Olympians who have spent most of their time in the Montpellier camp. Valère Germain scored his second goal in two consecutive games.
OM quickly back on track
The 7th round of matches of Ligue 1 will be played in midweek. Next Tuesday (24 September), OM will be travelling to Dijon. With this point from the draw, OM temporarily occupies second place in the championship, sitting on 11 points.
