Inauguration of a fifth field for the "Capitale du Foot" project.

The “Capitale du Foot” project continues to expand across Marseille with the inauguration of a fifth pitch, this time in the heart of the 3rd arrondissement. This marks another important milestone for this initiative led by Olympique de Marseille and Treizième Homme, which aims to provide residents with renovated, accessible sports facilities that are firmly rooted in local life.

Funded by Treizième Homme, the City of Marseille, and the CMA CGM Foundation, the Peyssonnel field is part of a series of field renovations completed since 2023: Place de la Major, Julien Baudon Stadium in Vauban, Friche la Belle de Mai, and the Weygand multisport complex. With this fifth inauguration in less than two and a half years, the project has reached a symbolic milestone, demonstrating its lasting impact on Marseille's neighborhoods.

The pitch is now a new meeting place for residents to play sports and socialize. It reflects the primary ambition and spirit of the project: to make soccer a vehicle for social cohesion, a space where young people can get together, play, and express themselves.

The inauguration was attended by Olympique de Marseille President Pablo Longoria, Marseille Mayor Benoît Payan, and many club figures who came to share this moment with the residents: players Amine Gouiri and Facundo Medina, players Tess Laplacette and Ninon Blanchard, and Olympique legend Jean-Pierre Papin.

After an official welcome and the unveiling of an inaugural plaque, the personalities in attendance were able to discover the activities on offer and chat with local young people, in keeping with the spirit of the “Capitale du Foot” project.

With this fifth pitch, Olympique de Marseille and Treizième Homme are reaffirming their desire to be much more than just a club: they want to be actively involved in the daily lives of Marseille's residents and in the development of sports for all. These new spaces, which are springing up all over the city, confirm that Marseille remains, more than ever, the true “Capitale du Foot.”
