Pro 2: OM takes a point in Fos
In the first leg against Etoile Sportive Fosséenne in Trets at the beginning of the year, OM were reduced to ten men after less than a minute of play with the sending off of Raimane Daou. Despite being a man down, our Olympians fought hard and even took the lead, but were unable to prevent a 3-2 defeat.
Our lineup for the game against ES Fosséenne
In the second leg, Fos found themselves down to ten men against eleven. Not at the start of the match, but right at the end of the first half. A foul by Yoan Secleppe gave Marseille a penalty, who had been trailing since the 7th minute after Fos's first chance, changing the balance of the match. Sofiane Sidi Ali made no mistake in converting the gift, allowing OM to go into the break with the score level.
45+2 : The penalty kick of Sofiane Sidi Ali
Deserving and brimming with good intentions, as we saw in several fine combinations, notably between Keyliane Abdallah, Darryl Bakola and Robinio Vaz, our Olympians nevertheless struggled to finish off their attacks. The final pass, the last cross or the shot lacked the technical precision to trouble the Fossé defence and their goalkeeper, Ahmadou Dia. Jelle Van Neck was called into action on a few occasions, but he was saved by his post in the 40th minute.
With a numerical advantage, OM took control of the game, but as in the first half, the Olympians did not have many opportunities to make a difference on the scoreboard. Alexi Koum often used his left wing to get in behind and cross. He even tried his luck with a shot, but the opposing goalkeeper was in the way. The introduction of Rony Mimb Baheng and the repositioning of Kelian Le Pironnec in midfield improved Marseille's play. But Fos-sur-Mer also had some assets on the bench. The players in black gave their all, especially in defence, to hold on to the draw. Marseille's desire and determination to do well often came up against the home side's physical play.
As the sun set over the Parsemain stadium, the mosquitoes woke up and the tension rose in the final minutes, as the match could have gone either way. Alexi Koum was sent off in stoppage time for a foul on the goalkeeper. Both teams threw everything into the battle and, despite some late chances for Olympique, the score remained unchanged.
With one point before the match, the gap between the two teams remains unchanged. In the standings, OM remains fourth with 38 points. On the next match day, Saturday 10 May at 6pm, OM will travel to Aigues Mortes.
