Olympique de Marseille is delighted to announce the signing of 20-year-old Belgian international midfielder Arthur Vermeeren from RB Leipzig.

Born in Lierre on 7 February 2005, Arthur Vermeeren played for Lierse SK and KV Mechelen before joining the team of Royal Antwerp in 2018. He made his professional debut with Antwerp on 11 August 2022, in a Conference League qualifying match against Lillestrøm, marking the beginning of a meteoric rise.

At just 17 years of age, Mark van Bommel's confidence in him quickly paid off: first with a few minutes against Ostend and Anderlecht, then a starting place against Club Brugge on 13 November. Arthur Vermeeren has not left the team since, demonstrating a maturity and composure rarely seen in such a young player.

During the 2022–23 season, Arthur Vermeeren played a central role in Royal Antwerp's successes, participating in all the important matches and finishing as an indispensable member of the starting eleven. He won the treble: the Belgian league, cup and Super Cup.

On 14 May 2023, his first professional goal was one of rare intensity: at the very end of the match against Club Brugge, he propelled Antwerp to a historic 3-2 victory, cementing his burgeoning legend and strengthening his club's first place with three games to go.

Inspired, elegant and blessed with rare vision, Arthur Vermeeren impresses with both his technique and his intelligence on the pitch. His qualities have attracted the attention of Europe's biggest clubs.

Arthur Vermeeren made his debut for the Red Devils on 13 October 2023 in a Euro 2024 qualifying match against Austria. This call-up was rewarded with an official selection for the Euro the following year, a further mark of his rapid progress.

On 26 January 2024, Atlético Madrid officially announced the transfer of Arthur Vermeeren on a six-and-a-half-year contract, until 2030. Despite a warm welcome, the Belgian midfielder did not get the playing time he had hoped for in Spain, making only five appearances in La Liga.

In search of more regular playing time, the Belgian joined RB Leipzig on loan in August 2024. This choice was motivated by the German club's reputation for working with young talent and the presence of compatriots in the dressing room.

Across the Rhine, he gained experience with 28 Bundesliga matches, four national cup matches and seven Champions League matches.

Barely out of his teens, Arthur Vermeeren has already lived a thousand lives: club kid, Bosuil hero, crowned prodigy, expatriate in Spain, German rebound. From the boisterous Belgian stadiums to the demanding pitches of the Bundesliga, his career has already been an epic journey. Each step along the way has demonstrated his exceptional mentality, unwavering resilience and quiet ambition, leaving the door wide open to a promising future.

At the age of 20, Arthur Vermeeren is opening a new chapter in his destiny by signing with OM: that of a master of the game capable of transcending expectations and writing his own story on the pitch, in the manner of silent champions who shine through their simplicity. His already rich career is only just beginning.

Welcome to Marseille, Arthur!
