In Auxerre, Olympique de Marseille secured its seventh win of the season, propelling it to second place in the table with 22 points. In the 21st century, after 11 league games, OM has only done better, with eight wins, twice before, in 2003-2004 and 2014-2015.

The victory in Burgundy was secured thanks to a goal from Angel Gomes. The English midfielder scored his second goal of the season, equalling his record for goals in a single league season, which he set in 2022-23 with Lille.

Our Olympians are currently performing well away from home. They have won three of their last four away games, beating Strasbourg, Metz and Auxerre, with one defeat at Lens.

The match in Auxerre was our coach Roberto De Zerbi's 50th on the Marseille bench. The Italian coach has a record of 29 wins, 6 draws and 15 defeats, giving him a win ratio of 58%. Only Didier Deschamps has done better (30 wins, 10 draws and 10 defeats). His team, however, has an average of 2.2 goals under his leadership, the highest average for OM in the 21st century.
