The Olympian No. 10 scored a double and allowed OM to win (2-1) at Audi Field in the EA League 1 Games semi-finals. Next meeting on Sunday against Saint-Etienne.

Payet double

Trailing at half-time, Olympique de Marseille were able to count on Dimitri Payet's brace to turn the tide. In fact, OM had put into practice on the first goal what the same Payet and Maxime Lopez mentioned in an interview with our media hours earlier. Namely, a high press to recover the ball and to quickly create danger. The recovery came from Kevin Strootman; the French international concluded the Dutchman's perfect shift with a fine, flat strike. Then there was the opening of Bouna Sarr, allowing the number 10 to score a double. Good for his confidence.

A final against Saint-Etienne

Since Les Verts won against Montpellier (4-2), it is a classic French championship game that will conclude these EA Ligue 1 Games. Mathieu Debuchy also scored a double in the other semi-final of the day. We meet them on Sunday, July 21 at Audi Field to experience the second outing on American soil of André Villas-Boas' team.

A more successful second half

Under stifling, and sometimes even unbearable, heat, OM had some difficulty getting into their game before rebalancing over the first half. Not really worried, but not really rewarded for these moves either, OM conceded the opening goal from a corner taken by defender Pablo. More enterprising in the second half, the Olympians were rewarded for their efforts. Even if Bordeaux hit the bar from another corner, this time taken by Mexer, OM managed to keep the score despite the incoming players and the desire of Bordeaux not to concede defeat to their rival.

More playing time for the youth

André Villas-Boas had chosen to trust his key players. But several young players had the opportunity to show themselves again. Seven of them featured late on at Audi Field on Thursday evening. They held the score and will have another opportunity to show their support on Sunday against Saint-Etienne, then on Wednesday 24 against DC United.
