Álvaro González Soberón is OM's first recruit. Read on to find out about the experienced Spanish defender.

The André Villas-Boas-OM era is strengthened with the arrival of an experienced defensive player who has been an undisputed starter in the La Liga Santander for several seasons and is used to facing up against large teams.

Born on 8 January 1990 in Potes, Spain, Álvaro González has always played in Spain before moving to Marseille. Trained at Racing Santander, he completed his youth levels at the Spanish club from 2003 to 2010, then became a professional. He then played in the first division until 2012, played 38 matches and then joined Real Zaragoza.

The right-footed defender has played two seasons (2012-2014) in the role of an undisputed starter, playing 77 matches. Álvaro González was then considered one of the most promising defenders in the country. In 2013, he won the Euro U-21 championship with the Spanish national team, led at that time by Julen Lopetegui.

After a season in the second division with Zaragoza, he was recruited in 2014 by Espanyol Barcelona and returned to the top flight. He had played more than eighty matches, had proven himself and had established himself as a key figure in the Barcelona-based team. He then caught the eye of Villarreal, who hired him in 2016. He reached a new level and despite the various changes of coaches, remained, each time, a very important player in the squad. During his three seasons with the yellow submarine, he took part in 111 matches, scored two goals and discovered Europe (Europa League).

Alvaro Gonzalez Soberón's good reading of the game, his experience, leadership, tackles and solidity in duels will be interesting assets for Olympique de Marseille

Bienvenida Álvaro !
