Olympique de Marseille has reached an agreement with Villarreal for a one-season loan with an option to purchase Spanish defender Álvaro González Soberón. The latter signed his contract at the end of the mandatory medical examinations.

Aged 29, Álvaro González Soberón is the first signing of the 2019-2020 summer window and will wear the number 3 jersey.
Arriving from the Spanish club Villarreal, Álvaro González is an experienced defender with more than 230 appearances in one of the biggest European leagues, the Spanish Liga. Having played for Racing Santander, Real Zaragoza and Espanyol de Barcelona, the right-footer has established himself as a sure bet at the highest level in Spain.

European champion with the Spanish U21 team in 2013, Álvaro González is a defensive leader, with a good reading of the game and a solid ability to play in duels. His longevity in the Spanish elite against high-level opponents makes him a complete defender who has strengthened the Olympian squad.
Olympique de Marseille is delighted to welcome Álvaro, who will bring all his experience and fighting spirit to help the club achieve its ambitions.
The player will now join his new teammates who are currently in Washington D.C. for the EA Ligue 1 Games as soon as possible and will be presented to the press upon his return to Marseille.
