OM score big in Washington!
OM ends its American tour in style! After their 2-1 win over Saint-Étienne and their first EA Ligue 1 Games title, Olympique de Marseille dominated DC United at Audi Field, in Washington (1-8).
In the first half, André Villas-Boas had a redesigned team. Mandanda, Sakai, Ćaleta-Ćaleta-Car, Álvaro González, Abdallah, Strootman, Sanson, Lopez, Nkounkou and Aké and Germain made up the OM eleven. Note the first start of the new recruit Álvaro González.
Throughout the match, the Olympiens were in control of the game. Strootman opened the scoring from a penalty (0-1, 28') before DC United equalised from a corner just before half-time (1-1, 45'). After the break, the Portuguese coach made some changes across the team and fielded Mandanda, Sarr, Kamara, Gonzalez, Amavi, Sertic, Lopez, Chabrolle, Radonjić, Payet and Lihadji.
Seven goals in the second half
Nemanja Radonjić, who had already scored against ASSE, was again in the spotlight with a goal after a long rush on the left (1-2, 48'). The OM players then stepped on the gas. Lopez scored a double in less than ten minutes and Sarr scored for the first time on the tour with a Payet pass (1-4, 57').
Chabrolle, Sarr and Khaoui crucified the US team three times in the space of five minutes (1-8, 89'). OM will have won all three matches in the USA and will play their next friendly against Napoli at the Orange Velodrome at 21:00 next Sunday.
