OM won the South Coast derby against Nice and scored their first win of the season.

The starting eleven

Against Nice, André Villas-Boas renewed his usual 4-3-3. The Olympian technician made only one change from the game against Nantes. Kevin Strootman is appointed in place of Luiz Gustavo.

Dario Benedetto is back at the top of the attack with Dimitri Payet on the left and Bouna Sarr on the right, the latter playing his 150th match for Marseille in all competitions.

Benedetto opens his account

Shortly after the game resumed, which was stopped by the referee for a few minutes, Dario Benedetto opened the scoring for OM. The Argentinian receives a Bouna Sarr cross, and volleyed the ball again. The Nice goalkeeper was beaten.

Benedetto, who was well on his feet and very present in the box, came close to his second as he made the same move in the penalty area three minutes later, but this time Benitez took the catch.

Second turbulent period

The Olympians were pegged back in the second half (66th) by Cyprien, who converted a disputed penalty. But they reacted quickly. Valère Germain, who had just come into play, also obtained a penalty. Dimitri Payet did not shake when he perfectly placed his shot in Benitez's net.

Benedetto and Germain subsequently spurned two very big chances. The first one trying (again) a volley, the second one saw his header parried by Benitez.

On the other side, Mandanda stepped in perfectly in front of Atal's fizzing shot and made a perfect save by punching the ball with both fists from a Nice corner.

OM's first win

Thanks to Dario Benedetto and Dimitri Payet, OM won their first win of the season, after losing to Reims and drawing in Nantes. The Olympians now have four points. Now in 13th place, OM are getting closer to the first half of the table.

Heading for Saint-Étienne

The match against Nice was postponed due to the organisation of the G7 in Biarritz. The Olympians are playing two matches this week. Sunday, September 1, OM host Saint-Étienne at the Orange Velodrome at the end of the 4th round of the Ligue 1 Conforama. On this occasion, Marseille players will wear a collector's jersey to celebrate the club's 120th anniversary.
