Despite the absence of Payet, Kamara and Sarr, OM went unbeaten for a 12th match in a row

STARTING XI

Deprived of three of its players, all suspended (Payet, Sarr, Kamara), André Villas-Boas lined up a 4-3-3 with several changes against Angers. Unsurprisingly, Marseille captain Steve Mandanda is keeping goal. The Olympian defence is made up of Sakai, Caleta-Car, Alvaro Gonzalez and Amavi. Strootman in the number six role is accompanied in midfield by Rongier and Sanson. The Olympian attack is made up of Lopez, Radonjic and Benedetto at the front. The ceremonial kick-off of the match was given by Jean Djorkaeff and Jean-Paul Escale.

250 for mandanda

No, Steve Mandanda is not playing in his 250th game with OM. It's been a long time since he's been over that milestone. However, against Angers, the Olympian goalkeeper is wearing the armband for the 250th time in his career with OM. The most-capped player in Olympian history is still breaking records.

Face à Angers, Mandanda a célébré son 250e match en tant que capitaine.

the match

Apart from a powerful low shot from Nemanja Radonjic, which went wide, the first half between OM and Angers was very poor in terms of chances. Against a team bunched up in defence, the Olympians struggled to break into the opposing camp. However, Jordan Amavi was always quick on the ball and sent in several crosses that could not find the target. The Olympians could have been surprised by a shot from Thioub but it was deflected into a corner. Both sides were 0-0 at the break.

As in the first half, the second half was not much different.  The Olympians had possession of the ball but could not worry Ludovic Butelle.  They tried from distance through Rongier, and Khaoui, who came on in the middle of the match, but the latter was too much of a threat.  From a set-piece, Khaoui found Strootman's header but the chance went quickly.

In the end, the two teams were unable to break the deadlock.  L'OM settled for a point, consolidated their second-place finish and maintained their five-point lead over the chasing pack:  Rennes.

RETURN TO THE FRENCH CUP

The next deadline is fast approaching for the Olympians, as they face off in the Round of 16 next Wednesday (29 January). Finally, they will be playing at home against Strasbourg at the Orange Vélodrome. In the championship, the next matchday will be played at Bordeaux on Sunday 2 February to close the 22nd round of the Ligue 1 Conforama.
