Despite a magnificent equaliser from Morgan Sanson, the Olympians could not avoid defeat to FC Nantes on Saturday afternoon at the Orange Vélodrome as part of Matchday 26 of the Ligue 1 Conforama.

OM REACHES THE 2500 mark

This afternoon at the Orange Vélodrome, OM became the first Ligue 1 team to reach the barrier of 2500 professional league matches since its creation in 1932.
For the occasion, the Club paid a fine tribute to the 1971 and 1972 Olympien team which won the title in those two years and the French Cup in 1972. Josip Skoblar, Jacky Novi, Bernard Bosquier, Jean-Louis Hodoul, Gilbert Gress, Charly Loubet, Jules Zvunka, Georges Carnus and Jean-Pierre Lopez were present at the stadium to remember these beautiful pages of Olympien history.

Sat l’Artificier heats the Orange Vélodrome

Always seeking to improve and modernise the spectator experience at the Orange Velodrome, Olympique de Marseille gave the stadium's microphone to Sat l'Artificier, a member of the Fonky Family, to support OM's historic announcer, André Fournel.
The Marseilles artist fully corresponds to the DNA of our club. He brought his personal touch, his creativity with a 100% Marseille playlist and his inimitable flow in order to animate the pre-match in an urban style allowing to mix two universes: sport and music.

WHAT AN ATMOSPHERE !

School holidays, weather resembling the early hours of spring, exceptional promotional offers, a successful team and a historic opponent... everything was in place on this Saturday afternoon to ensure a good turnout. And a great turnout means a great atmosphere! Tifos in the two corners, singing and cheering throughout the game, and especially when OM were trailing, coming from the 60430 spectators present.

THE FIRST HALF

The Olympians have timidly entered the game. They were deprived of the ball by Nantes in the opening minutes and, although they were not really dangerous, the main chances were Nantes'. Tactically, both teams were well in place and every patch of ground was squared to block opposing attempts. It wasn't until the half hour of play that the match got off to a flying start. Christian Gourcuff's men scored from a quickly taken free-kick. They turned the game around and Bamba's cross at the far post was met by a diving header from Limbombé.
The Olympians were soon back in the game. The response was even superb with a backward cross from the right, controlled by Sanson. The curling shot of the young dad beat Lafont.

THE SECOND HALF

The Marseille players were hit again by the Canaries on the way back from the changing rooms. Bamba, who had set up the opening goal, was the scorer. From the left, he managed to break into the box and placed a wrapped shot that flew past Mandanda and into the net with the help of the opposite post.

Marseille pushed forward to get back on level terms. André Villas-Boas brought some new blood into the battle with Strootman and Aké in place of Kamara and Rongier. Then Lopez replaced Germain. In added time, OM conceded a third goal after Mandanda's shot was released by Moses and Alvaro deflected into his own net.

L'OM lost to Nantes. The first league defeat since PSG-OM (4-0) on 27 October 2019 and the first at home since the first matchday of Ligue 1 Conforama against Reims (0-2) on 10 August 2019!

With an 11-point lead over the third-placed team, Marseille's second-place finish is, even with this defeat, not in danger at the moment.
