Despite Gueye's opener, the Olympians, reduced to ten men, lost to Rennes.

ReTURN OF PAYET AND AMAVI

To face Rennes, André Villas-Boas has made some changes in his starting area. If he has kept a 4-4-2 pattern with a diamond-shaped middle, Payet and Gueye have replaced Cuisance and Sanson. Behind them, Amavi made his comeback and Balerdi took the place of Caleta-Car, who was suspended.
The Olympien coach, suspended at the Orange Vélodrome against ASM, found his place on the Marseille bench.

Amavi, THE DIFFICULT BLOW

After only 18 minutes of play, when the ball is far from him, Jordan Amavi repositioned himself by jumping up and down when the Olympian collapsed, all alone. Immediately, the player understands, turns to his bench and nods "no". Injured in the calf, the Marseille left-back is replaced two minutes later, by the Japanese Yuto Nagatomo.

FIRST GOAL FOR GUEYE...BEFORE A RED CARD

He had already scored in preparation matches but never in official competition. Pape Gueye, who arrived at OM this summer, found the net against Rennes for the first time under his new colours. After receiving a cross from Payet, the Montreuil native took the time to control the ball before hitting the ball low and hard.

Warned in the 10th minute for holding Camavinga, Gueye received a second yellow card for elbowing Niang in an aerial duel. Excluded, the midfielder will be automatically suspended for Reims on Saturday at 7pm at the Orange Vélodrome.

Rennes CLIMB BACK

On a numerical superiority, Rennes dominated the beginning of the second period. The Olympians defended with ten men. They held on for a good quarter of an hour before conceding a goal. On a cross from Doku, Traoré, at the first post, got the better of Balerdi and Nagatomo to place a header out of Mandanda's reach.
Throughout the second half, the Bretons had possession and control of the ball. At the end of the game, the Bretons took the lead with a free kick and a header from Aguerd that Hunou deflected from outside into the Marseille net with the help of the post.

DIFFICULT EVENING

OM still has two games less in the classification but this defeat is not a good operation since Lille and Paris won and Lyon drew. The Olympians are fourth, five points behind LOSC, 4 behind PSG and 3 behind OL.
On Saturday at 7 pm, the Marseilles team will have the opportunity to make up for lost time with the reception of Reims at the Orange Vélodrome.
