Whereas they led 2-0 at the break thanks to goals from Thauvin and Milik, the Olympians were caught up in the second half and finally conceded a draw to Lens.

THE OLYMPIEN XI

André Villas-Boas left before the meeting, and the management of the team was entrusted to Nasser Larguet, director of the training centre. For his first match, he had many absentees in his ranks, suspended players Gueye, Balerdi, Cuisance and Khaoui, but also injured players Amavi and Rongier.
Sakai, Caleta-Car, Perrin and Lirola made up the defence. Gonzalez and Kamara were positioned in front of the defence, Payet and Thauvin occupied the wings. Germain and Milik were at the front.

Thauvin FREES OM

The Marseille team lit the first fuse of the game with Kamara who was the first to hit the ball. As is often the case, the Olympiens made a good start. Pressing, ball circulation and combativeness were there but whether it was Milik or Perrin, OM couldn't find a way through.
Lens, whose Sotoca goal was justly denied for an offside at the start of the action in the 12th minute, gradually took control of the match and put pressure on Mandanda's goals. Yet it was in this strong moment for the northerners that the Olympians opened the scoring. Thauvin controlled Alvaro's opening from the left before attempting a cross-shot from the right out of Leca's reach. It was the seventh goal from Marseille's top scorer.

Milik AHEAD OF THE BREAK

We were playing extra time in the first half when OM got a free kick. Payet fired it in for Germain's header which found Alvaro on the back foot and was deflected into Leca's goal by an opportunist Milik.
The Pole scored his first goal for Marseille at Stade Bollaert and allowed OM to go back to the changing room for the break with a two-goal advantage.

Lens HIT BACK

At the beginning of the second period, Lens reduced the gap and got back on track. Following a cross from newcomer Kalimuendo, deflected by a heel from Banza, winner in the first encounter, Sotoca beat Mandanda.
OM had a great opportunity to regain a two-goal lead, but Milik couldn't hit and preferred to slip the ball to Thauvin. The native of Orléans couldn't find the frame.
On the hour, the Sang et Or levelled with OM with a goal from Medina, who put in a cross from Clauss on the edge of the box.

THE STANDINGS

The Marseille team had lost three consecutive times in Ligue 1 Uber Eats and four times including the Champions Trophy. With the point taken in Lens, the Olympiens stopped the spiral of defeats. With still two games in hand, they occupy ninth place with 33 points, four behind the fifth place held by Rennes.
