After a solid match, the Olympians conceded two goals from David in the very last minutes of the game.

NTCHAM MAKES STARTING DEBUT

With the suspensions of Sakai and Alvaro, it is in defence that Nasser Larguet has made some changes. Balerdi was associated with Caleta-Car in the centre. Lirola and Nagatomo occupied the flanks. In the middle, with Kamara and Gueye, Ntcham honoured his first Ligue 1 Uber Eats start. In front, Payet and Thauvin surrounded Milik at the front.

IN THE PRESENCE OF FRANK MCCOURT

After two marathon days in Marseille during which he successively met the leaders of the supporters groups, political personalities such as the Mayor of Marseille Benoît Payan or Martine Vassal, President of the Aix-Marseille-Provence metropolis, attended meetings with the new President of OM, Pablo Longoria, Frank McCourt who also addressed the Club's employees, was on Wednesday, at the Pierre-Mauroy stadium to follow the Olympiens.

SOLID FIRST HALF

Lille dominated the first period but the opportunities for the Dogues were few. They shot 11 times on goal but only 2 were shot on target... And Mandanda shone with beautiful parries. Defensively, OM were solid and well in place preventing Christophe Galtier's men from developing their attacks.

OM started in 4-3-3 but Nasser Larguet quickly gave the order to move up to 4-2-3-1. So, the duo Kamara-Gueye came back in front of the defence, Payet regained his position as number 10 and Ntcham passed on the left side. The Olympien game seemed more fluid at the end of the period. Kamara had the best chance with a long shot after a break of Payet in the defence of Lille, but Maignan saved well.

OM SUCCUMB AT THE END

For the second half, Ntcham, repositioned on the left in the first half, left his place to Khaoui. On the hour of play, Germain replaced Thauvin.

As in the first 45 minutes, possession was mostly for Lille but against a Marseille team that was well organised and defensively rigorous, their chances were rare. When they went to the end, Mandanda again made decisive parries in front of Weah and David.

Benedetto came in for Payet in the last minutes. The final tense moments when OM finally fell behind when Ikoné's shot was deflected by Mandanda but David followed up well. The Lille striker scored a double after another parry from the Olympien keeper.

THE TABLE

With this defeat, OM slipped one place in the championship. The Olympiens are in eighth place with 39 points, 2 points behind Metz (6th) and 5 points behind Lens (5th). On Sunday at 9 pm, the Marseille team will play the round of 32 of the French Cup in Perpignan against Le Canet. Next Wednesday, it will be time to play the postponed match against Rennes.
