First successful outing for the Olympiens who won 3-0 against Martigues. Jorge Sampaoli made a wide review of the squad and the youngsters participated in the victory.

FIRST PERIOD

The sun, the song of the cicadas: there is no doubt that the first friendly match of the season against FC Martigues took place in Marseille, at the Robert Louis-Dreyfus Center. A first outing for Jorge Sampaoli's men, who decided to line up an almost typical team to face the neighboring Martigues, with a 3-5-2 specific to the Argentine coach. In the absence of Steve Mandanda, Simon Ngapandouetnbu kept goal.

Valentin Rongier

For this first match, the Olympiens had long phases of possession but came up against an opposing block that was well grouped and leaving little space. However, Valentin Rongier had two great chances. The first one, a nice shot that went to the top corner, but the keeper did a great job to stop it. The second one came after a collective movement led by Payet, then Kamara for Rongier whose effort was matched by the keeper. After a first period of 30 minutes, both teams did not find the net.

Team for first period : Ngapadouetnbu - Henrique, Perrin, Alvaro, Amavi, Radonjic - Rongier, Kamara, Gueye - Payet, Benedetto.

SECOND PERIOD

Very serious, the Olympiens did not take this game lightly and accelerated the pace after the first half hour. Kamara opened the score with a superb volley after a bad deflection from the Martigues goalkeeper. A little later, Benedetto doubled the lead on a low service from Dieng. After that, Martigues had two great chances, but a great save by Ngapandouetnbu and the crossbar saved OM.

Bamba Dieng a délivré une passe décisive.

THIRD PERIOD

For the third and final period, Jorge Sampaoli changed all his team, except his goalkeeper and Bamba Dieng. The starters left the place to the young Olympien players, who perfectly took over the torch, realizing a period of quality. The Marseille team scored a third goal through Gebreyesus, who easily beat the goalkeeper to put the ball in the net.

The home team had a successful first outing of the season with this large and deserved victory. Next week, the Olympiens will face Sete, a 3rd division side, at the Robert Louis-Dreyfus Centre on Sunday July 11 at 6 pm. The match will also be available live on Twitch.
