Trailing 2-0 at the break, Olympiens overturned Montpellier thanks to Ünder's first goal and a double from an in-form Payet.

FIRST XI OF THE SEASON

Jorge Sampaoli made two changes for the first league match against Villarreal. Boubacar Kamara made his return to midfield while Konrad De La Fuente made his first start in the Ligue 1 Uber Eats, as did William Saliba, Gerson, Luan Peres, Cengiz Under and Mattéo Guendouzi. The Olympien coach had confidence in six recruits surrounded by last season's veterans: Dimitri Payet, Pape Gueye, Steve Mandanda. Alvaro Gonzalez was serving a one-match suspension.

FIRST HALF

From the outset, OM showed their desire to play and Dimitri Payet scored a goal after only three minutes, but after a video check, the Olympien number 10 had his goal refused. As the Olympiens went on the offensive, they were caught out by one of Montpellier's rare opportunities. Four minutes later, Laborde's lucky cross ended up in Steve Mandanda's net. At the break, OM were 2-0 down.

Ünder SCORES HIS FIRST FOR OM

The Olympiens were largely dominant but were not really rewarded in this match. On the hour mark, Jorge Sampaoli made his first change with the introduction of Benedetto to provide an additional presence in the box. OM were finally rewarded with an impressive piece of work from Konrad De la Fuente. The American found the Turkish player at the far post on the left and cruised past Bertaud to score his first goal in official competition for OM.

THE PAYET SHOW

Galvanised by Ünder's goal, the Olympians pushed to equalise. They managed to do so thanks to the man in form. From a free kick, the Marseille playmaker beat Bertaud and put OM back in the game. As if a goal wasn't enough, Dimitri Payet, again, seven minutes later, allowed OM to take the lead with a low shot. In a frenzy, the 300 Olympien fans exploded with joy at the goal of the maestro Payet.

Match BRIEFLY sUSPENDED

In the 89th minute, the referee suspended the match because of projectiles thrown by Montpellier supporters. All the players went back to the dressing room. And after a ten-minute break, the match resumed after a Montpellier corner. The Olympiens held on for the five minutes of extra time granted by the referee. The Olympiens had their first win of the season in the league and put in a great performance.
