Since 26 December, Hiroki Sakai has been prepararing with Japan ahead of the Asian Cup - which will take place from 5 January to 1 February, 2019 in the United Arab Emirates. In their group, Japan will face Turkmenistan, Oman and Uzbekistan. If they qualify for the rest of the competition, Hajime Moriyasu's men will begin the knockout stage on Saturday, 20 January, 2019. The final will be played on 1 February at Zayed Sports City Stadium in Abu Dhabi.
