Olympique de Marseille returned to winning ways on Sunday with a 1-0 win at 10-man Caen at Stade Michel d'Ornano

After the painful defeat at Saint-Etienne in midweek, OM faced an opponent in which they had beaten 6 times in a row, scoring 18 in the process.

But the game started harshly with several fouls puncturing play. Both Enzo Crivelli and Kevin Strootman received bookings while Dimitri Payet wqs substituted after an early injury.

The visitors though attacked intently with Thauvin and Sanson going close, though Caen themselves tested Mandanda on several occasions.

After a turgid end to the half, the second started with aplomb. A wild pass by Thauvin instigated a counter attack in which Morgan Sanson headed in deftly past Brice Samba to give OM the lead.

Caen were reduced to 10 after with Guilbert penalised for a second time. OM did have the ball in the net late on but Ocampos’ strike was ruled out for offside.

A welcome 3 points in the end, and Rudi Garcia’s side look forward to making a bigger splash on Friday night against Lille at the Orange Velodrome.
