Reims - OM (2-1) | Visitors defeated
Olympique de Marseille were beaten 2-1 by Stade de Reims at Stade Auguste Delaune on Saturday evening.
OM were looking to bounce back from the defeat to Lille last weekend and had been stronger on the road, a fact which was evident in Caen the week before.
And despite a good start, it was the hosts who settled quicker with Dia going close for Reims.
Indeed, they were rewarded when Dingome struck a fortuitous effort past Mandanda to hand David Guion’s side the lead midway through the first half.
Towards the end of the period OM were in the ascendancy with only an imperious Edouard Mendy stopping the visitors from gaining on the scoresheet.
The second half proved to be a challenging affair - a challenge which did not get easier when Suk struck the second for Reims on a breakaway.
But OM did not relent - Ocampos, Germain and Strootman all went close, with Mendy in stunning form to frustrate his former side.
A consolation goal from Clinton Njie in the dying minutes kept things tetchy, but in the end Reims held out. OM host Bordeaux in the rescheduled game in midweek.
