The Olympiens had the opportunity to sign a third consecutive victory against Brest. But despite Gerson's opening goal, they were overtaken by the Bretons.

the same 11

This is rare enough to be highlighted. With the succession of games, Jorge Sampaoli has got into the habit of rotating his starting eleven. There have been as many as seven changes between games at the height of the repetition of matches. The Argentine coach, however, fielded the same team against Brest as he did in the last match, at Nantes last Wednesday (0-1). The only change came on the bench with Ünder taking over from Targhalline.

Gerson, AGAIN!

It was a great start for the Olympiens who immediately took their opponents by the throat. Deprived of the ball, the Bretons huddled in defence and kept their heads down before getting their heads out of the water mainly on the counter-attack.
The first chance came from Gerson after a three-way move with Guendouzi at the start and a cross back from Harit to the Brazilian whose left-footed shot was saved by Bizot (7'). After a one-two with Payet, the Brazilian drove the ball into the box and slammed a missile under the bar (29').
Gerson, who scored in midweek in Nantes, did so again at home against Brest.

Brest return via the penalty spot

In the 52nd minute, Del Castillo's shot was deflected into the penalty area unintentionally by Kamara, who was initially obscured. The Bretons immediately claimed the penalty. The referee blew his whistle and asked for VAR assistance, which confirmed the foul. Faivre took the penalty and put the two teams back on level terms.

…and take the lead

In less than 20 minutes, Brest took the lead on the scoreboard. The Bretons got back on track after the penalty and went ahead when Honorat scored after a back-heel on the edge of the box from Le Douaron. Honorat's powerful shot hit the crossbar and into the net to the amazement of the crowd.

om attempts to level

Before Brest's second goal, Guendouzi had a great opportunity to score, well set up by Lirola, but the former Gunner's shot went narrowly wide. It was the same story at 2-2 when Gerson's shot went wide after a slight mix-up.

The Olympiens, who had brought on Milik and Ünder, tried everything to get back into the game, even if it meant being exposed. But the score remained there... The Marseillais did not win a third consecutive game in L1 and are now at the mercy of the results of their pursuers (Rennes, Nice and Lens) in the fight for the podium.
