OM qualified for the round of 32 of the French Cup but had to fight hard to overcome the valiant team of Cannet-Rocheville.

The starting xi

For the penultimate match of the year 2021, Jorge Sampaoli continued the turnover he has been making since the beginning of the season. The Argentinian coach made eight changes to his starting line-up compared to last week's win in Strasbourg. Only Lirola, Gueye and Payet were in the starting line-up in Alsace and will be again in the French Cup against Cannet-Rocheville. Mandanda, Alvaro, Balerdi, Amavi, Harit, Guendouzi, de la Fuente and Milik replace Lopez, Saliba, Peres, Caleta-Car, Henrique, Kamara, Rongier and Dieng.

A NEW LOOK FOR THE CUP

It's a new shirt for the Olympiens as they enter the Coupe de France. The new shirt is white with unstructured grey stripes, and has the logo of Puma, whose partnership with OM was renewed on Friday until 2028.

ESCR TAKE A SURPRISE LEAD

The beginning of the match was dominated by OM against a regrouped team with a five-man defence in front of their penalty area. The chances are rare, only Milik tried a lob that went just wide of the goal.
The visitors played the counter. Most of them were stopped by the Olympian rearguard. But in the 17th minute, Mendes launched Coré, on the very edge of offside. He found himself alone in front of Mandanda, who he flicked the ball past for the opening goal.

OM RETURN VIA THE SPOT

Since ESCR's opening goal, Marseille have been trying to equalise but the Côte d'Azur defence has held firm. They broke down in the 39th minute when Guendouzi sent de la Fuente through on goal. The American was brought down in the area by Lahouel. The referee gave a second yellow card to the Cannet Rocheville player, who left his partners and pointed to the penalty spot. Milik takes it and converts it without trembling (41').

OM TAKES ADVANTAGE

With a numerical advantage against a National 3 team, Marseille controlled the second half and quickly had chances, mainly through Milik, who hit the ball over the top before heading against the crossbar. Just before the hour mark, the Pole, well served at the back post, adjusted the goalkeeper.

Jorge Sampaoli took advantage of the lead to make changes: Dieng, Henrique, Gerson, Rongier and then Targhalline came on for the end of the game. The Brazilian winger, who was looking for game time to build his confidence, soon made his mark. Guendouzi intercepted a good ball and slipped it to Henrique who scored the third goal for the 21538 spectators at the Orange Velodrome.

OM added to their lead in the last second. Milik scored a hat-trick from another Guendouzi assist, his third of the afternoon.
