After 44 years without success in Bordeaux, Jorge Sampaoli's OM managed to win at the Girondins thanks to a goal from Ünder. The end of the difficult series

STARTING XI

Covid, injuries, AFCON... Jorge Sampaoli juggled with absences for the first Ligue 1 Uber Eats match of the year 2022 for OM. However, the Argentine coach only made 3 changes in his starting eleven compared to the team aligned against US Chauvigny. Lopez, Lirola and Harit replaced Lopez, Gerson and Milik.

Ünder opens scoring

The first half was dominated by OM, with Harit, Payet and Peres all failing to find the target. Caleta-Car hit the bar from a Payet corner that was headed away by Kamara. Then Costil's poor throw-in led to Ünder collecting the ball. The Turkish international ran at full speed through the middle of the park and skipped past the Bordeaux defence before crossing his shot past Costil.

It had been 307 minutes since OM had found the net in a Bordeaux-OM game, since Morgan Sanson's last-minute goal in the 2017-2018 season.

om don't fold

Jorge Sampaoli underlined this point during the press conference on Friday 48 hours before the match. OM sometimes find it difficult to make the score better, kill the game and avoid shaking in the dying minutes. On the return from the locker room, the Marseillais tried but stumbled on Costil, probably annoyed by his mistake which led to Ünder's goal. Caleta-Car from the head on a free kick from Payet, then Guendouzi or Ünder, ideally launched by Payet and then Payet himself did not manage to put the second goal.

the end of the series

The Olympien success thanks to a goal from Ünder in the 37th minute is historic. This victory is OM's first on the Bordeaux lawn in the league since October 1, 1977 (1-2). It’s the end of more than 44 years without a win for OM in Bordeaux, for a total of 36 games (15 draws and 21 losses). History will remember that the Marseille curse in Bordeaux ended on January 7, 2022 by Jorge Sampaoli's team.

OM MOVE TO 2nd, assures podium this weekend

It's the advantage of playing first, which doesn't often happen at OM this season as the Olympiens have often played on Thursdays in the Europa League. By winning in Bordeaux, Jorge Sampaoli's men secured their place on the podium ahead of the weekend's matches. The Olympians are second and only Nice, which moves to Brest, is able to come back in front.
