Samuel Gigot signed for Olympique de Marseille on Saturday 29 January 2022.

Olympique de Marseille has reached an agreement with Spartak Moscow for the immediate permanent transfer of the French defender. Samuel Gigot, who will nevertheless finish the 2021/2022 season in Russia on loan and will return to Marseille for the 2022/2023 season.
 
Born in Avignon on 12 October 1993, Samuel grew up in the Avignon region and began his professional career in Ligue 2 with AC Arles-Avignon.


He then moved to Belgium in 2015 to play for KV Kortrijk and then KAA Gent.
 
In 3 years, he played more than 100 games in the Jupiler Pro League, before joining Spartak Moscow in 2018, a club with which he discovered the Champions League.


He will be playing in the last eight of the UEFA Europa League next March with the Moscow-based club after qualifying in the group stage ahead of Napoli, Leicester and Legia Warsaw.
 
Strong in duels but also in the recovery, he has become an indisputable starter in Spartak's defence and is much in demand on the transfer market. The Avignon native will finish the season in Russia before joining Olympique de Marseille for the 2022/2023 season.
