Olympique de Marseille were held to a 2-2 draw against Angers SCO on Saturday afternoon at the Orange Velodrome.

After defeat in the last outing against PSG, and with Lyon winning last night against Rennes, OM required maximum points to remain in the race for the Champions League.

On a sunny afternoon at the Velodrome, OM made the fast start they were looking for. Just four minutes in Lucas Ocampos provided a superb ball over the top of the Angevin defenders. Mario Balotelli beat the offside trap to sneak the ball in.

Despite the intervention of the VAR, OM were awarded the goal. The Italy international grabbed a second soon after. Again linking up off the wing, he struck a fine right-footed shot that beat the goalkeeper and put OM two ahead.

Angers did have their chances, precisely when a Rami header was capitalised on by Reine-Adelaide, whose effort went wide of Pele’s goal.

But the visitors did get their goal in controversial circumstances. Jordan Amavi was adjudged to have brought his man down - Thomas Mangani converted from the spot to reduce the deficit to 2-1.

The second half had few chances but Angers benefitted from a second penalty with 15 minutes to go - Mangani slotting again to level up the score

Seconds later, Bouna Sarr was given a red card for a second bookable offence which compounded the frustration for Rudi Garcia’s side.
