Olympique de Marseille is pleased to announce the appointment of Gennaro Gattuso as the head coach of the first team.

A world champion with Italy in 2006 and a double European champion with AC Milan in 2003 and 2007, Gennaro Gattuso is an iconic figure in European football. After transitioning to a coaching career in 2013, he has worked with some of the greatest Italian tacticians, including Carlo Ancelotti, Marcello Lippi, and Massimiliano Allegri. He is now set to explore his sixth league in France, having previously played and coached in the Italian, Scottish, Swiss, Greek, and Spanish leagues.

Gattuso's coaching career brought him back to AC Milan in 2017 and then to SSC Napoli in 2019, where he successfully turned around the fortunes of these two Italian football institutions. Under his leadership, both teams secured European competition qualifications in 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2021.

His winning mentality, ability to thrive in high-pressure environments, and extensive experience at the highest level even led Napoli to victory in the Coppa Italia against Juventus in 2020, ending several years without a title for the southern Italian club. Additionally, after a stint at Valencia CF last season, he becomes the first Italian coach to lead the Olympique de Marseille since Giuseppe Zilizzi in 1958.
