Born in Ridderkerk on February 13, 1990, Kevin Strootman began his professional career at Sparta Rotterdam, his formative club. After three seasons and a half (75 games, 6 goals) at Sparta who were relegated to the Dutch second tier, Strootman signed at FC Utrecht in January 2011 to remain in the Eredivisie. He would remain there for only half a season before joining one of the three big Dutch clubs, PSV Eindhoven.

In two seasons at PSV, he discovered the Europa League (14 games, 4 goals) and wins his first trophies, the Dutch Cup and the Dutch Super Cup in 2012. In the league, he finds the net 8 times in 62 games.

His good performances attracted the eyes of AS Roma. In July 2013, he committed for five years with the Italian capital club, coached at the time by Rudi Garcia. But in March 2014, Strootman would suffer a heavy knee injury. The Dutch international began a long period of recovery during which he played very little, which stunted his development. In two seasons at Roma, he played only 12 games. Strootman returned to a normal rhythm in 2016-17. For two years, he has been an indisputable starter at the Stadio Olimpico.

The 28-year-old has also been a Dutch international since February 9, 2011. Strootman has played 41 games with the "Oranje" and scored 3 goals.

Left-footed, athletic, strong and tough in duels, Kevin Strootman is known for his tactical intelligence, his sense of play, his skill on set-pieces and his vision of the game.
