Pro 2: OM finishes in style
The late afternoon began with a guard of honour for Kassim Abdallah, who is ending his football career after this match. He was given a fitting send-off by his teammates, the staff, the opposing players and the crowd at La Gardi stadium.
After this emotional moment, our Olympians took control of the game from the kick-off. The gap between the two teams in the table was evident on the pitch. In the third minute, Tunkadi's shot was parried by the Hérault goalkeeper, but Sidi Ali was well placed and opportunistic, sending the ball into the back of the net with his right foot.
Marseille continued to dominate. Ange Lago doubled the lead with a deep ball that he negotiated beautifully, as did his one-on-one with Dizdarevic, the Montpellier goalkeeper.
The first half continued without any real danger for OM. Jelle Van Neck had nothing to do but collect the ball. And it was on one of these that his pass was intercepted. Miguel immediately fired the ball into the top corner of the Marseille goal.
The second half was one-sided. Marseille's stranglehold on the game tightened. Olympique captain Sofiane Sidi Ali took advantage of this to score two more goals, almost in quick succession. He set up the first one himself. For the second, his third of the afternoon, he was superbly served in the centre and, once again, did not miss his duel with the goalkeeper.
With the score at 4-1, it wasn't over yet... When the referee awarded a penalty to the men in white, Kassim Abdallah calmly picked up the ball and placed it in the penalty area. He took a run-up and sent the ball under the crossbar. Unstoppable!!! The whole team rushed towards him to celebrate the goal in his last match.
With this victory, and pending the other matches on the final day on Saturday at 6 p.m., OM climbs to fourth place.
