Timothy Weah, the heir with wings spread wide
He could have fled the shadows. Left his surname behind, turned his back on football and built a life for himself elsewhere. But blood will tell, and Timothy Weah chose football, in the spotlight, with the name of a king as his torch: George. Because when you're the son of the only African Ballon d'Or winner in history, every call, every touch, every shot is scrutinised.
Born in New York in 2000, Timothy could have grown up in comfort. But the blood of the Weahs runs through his veins. The young boy loves to run, create and score. PSG welcomed him at the age of 14. In France, he learned European rigour and patience. In the shadow of stars such as Adrien Rabiot, he honed his art, far from the spotlight that would have burned his wings too soon.
But to make his mark, he had to leave. In 2018, he headed to Celtic Glasgow, where he experienced the thrill of scoring goals and the chants of the fans. Then, a season later, he moved to Lille in Ligue 1, where he settled in, gained maturity and consistency. While he may not be the most high-profile player of his generation, he is undoubtedly one of the most clear-headed. His game is characterised by generous runs, precise touches and rare versatility. Whether on the wing or in a central role, he does what is expected of him: he gives his all, without holding back.
Timothy is forging his own path. In the US national team, he is a trusted player, a World Cup goalscorer and a link between generations.
At Juventus from 2023, he will learn the demands of the very highest level at a club where heritage counts. That's good news, because he knows better than anyone what that means.
Timothy Weah has a passion that doesn't dazzle, but lights his way with humility and determination. Far from being in the shadows, he has become a discreet light in his own right, determined to make a name for himself.
Welcome to Marseille, Timothy!
