Two firefighters kicked off the match between OM and Aston Villa at the Orange Vélodrome.

On Saturday 9 August, during the friendly game against Aston Villa FC, a symbolic kick-off was given by Corporal Océane Boschat, from the Bouches-du-Rhône fire brigade, and Quartermaster Jean Arnaud-Bassene, from the Marseille Marine Fire Brigade.

During the two friendly matches played at the Orange Vélodrome this summer, OM and its President wanted to pay tribute to the commitment of all those who fight these fires. No fewer than 1,000 people (firefighters, emergency services, public safety personnel, local authorities, public operators and government services) actively involved in the response were invited by the club to attend the two games.

Since the beginning of the summer, numerous fires have affected our region and, more broadly, the entire country. Every day, men and women are mobilising to protect our lives and our environment: their commitment and courage are admirable. Let us all remain vigilant: let us adopt responsible behaviour to prevent fires, which are often caused by humans, mostly unintentionally but nevertheless avoidable.
