The reaction of our Italian coach, Roberto De Zerbi, at the press conference after his team's 3-0 victory over Stade Brestois on matchday 12 of the 2025-2026 McDonald's Ligue 1 season at the Orange Vélodrome.

The quality of the game

That's typical of Marseille. On Wednesday, we played badly. Against Angers, with almost the same team, we played badly, and tonight we played a great game. We kept possession well, we had lots of chances to score, and we didn't give away many chances. We changed our tactical approach when they made changes. We can play badly in some matches and play well in the next.

You've found the right madman in me. If you understand Marseille and the Orange Vélodrome, you can adapt. You have to live day by day, focus on the next training session, the next match.

Aubameyang and Greenwood

Aubameyang had chances, he was unlucky. I left him on the pitch hoping he would score. Greenwood ran a lot. Vermeeren had a good game, a real midfield game. Angel Gomes too. I'm happy with everyone.

Preparing for the match

I speak to Vermeeren every day, as I do with all the players. He's a young player, but he was well known before he came here. We need a player who can win his duels, and that makes him complete. If he can keep performing like he did today, he'll be a starter.

Enjoying first place

Tonight, I'm going to the RLD centre, then I'm off to Italy, and while listening to music in the car, I'll already be thinking about the line-up against Nice.

Ball recovery by the midfield

Once again, it's OM. I wanted us to control the game with these three players. I wanted them to press quickly when they lost the ball. At half-time, I told them to play. In football, when you concede a goal, it's not the end of the world. We have the best attack, we're top of the table. I want the team to play with more courage and not hold back like they did against Atalanta.

More character

I hope the team will become more stable. It will be more stable when it stops focusing on social media and all the talk. We're top of the table, but we need to prepare for the next storm. If we're ready to face it, it will be easier. It's harder here, but when you win, it's even better. I try to appreciate all the positive things about Marseille, and there are many.

Areas for improvement

The game, the game, the game... Because I suffer when the team plays badly, like against Angers, Atalanta or Auxerre. It hurts me when the team plays badly. It weighs on me. We can win by playing badly, but the Auxerre match doesn't represent me.

The international break

Thanks for the advice. We have to work and get the injured players back. At 2-0, I almost brought on Weah and Kondogbia, but I preferred to bring on Bakola and Mmadi. We need to get Medina back, Balerdi won't be going to the national team. We have a lot of players, Paixao, Greenwood... On Tuesday and Wednesday, we'll be back in training because there's nothing better than training.

Nayef Aguerd

That's the downside of the evening. He's been suffering from groin pain for some time and felt it getting worse. He's going to have tests done and could miss the Africa Cup of Nations and the Champions Trophy in Kuwait, which I don't understand, but that's another matter. I hope he recovers quickly.

The first three months of OM

We had a good start to the season. It wasn't perfect, but we were never lucky. We may have lacked certain things at the end of the game. We deserve more points in L1 and C1. In Europe, we're not dead yet; we have the quality to do it. We were in first place on 8 November, and we mustn't forget that.
