OM-Rennes (3-0): Coach's reaction
Roberto De Zerbi: ‘Pleased with the reaction’
The match
I'm pleased with the match, the victory and the reaction against a strong team that didn't shoot on goal. We're going to prepare for the match against Paris. I hope we can find some consistency.
The reaction
It was a match that required focus. In the first half, we didn't expect Rennes to play like that. We weren't fluid or attractive with the ball at our feet. Before the match, I was afraid we would be too unbalanced with four forwards. But in the end, we didn't concede any shots. When you play with an extra defender, you concede three goals, and tonight with four forwards, we didn't concede any goals. We're happy to have qualified.
Relief
No, you feel relieved when you have a clear conscience. We saw the supporters yesterday, and they said the right things. Tonight, they were behind us, apart from the banners, which were justified. The supporters often tell the truth. They're right about the defeat in Bruges, we should be ashamed of that match. We've alternated between big games and slumps. There are expectations, sometimes we've met them and sometimes we haven't, that's the truth.
Facundo Medina
Medina, Højbjerg and others are examples of how to behave. They have the right attitude and never miss a training session. We have ambition and motivation. If I can't transfer all that to every match, it's my responsibility. I still have that motivation; it's my drug. In football, I'm always excited.
Jeffrey De Lange
Anyone can be a starter. I've proven that. Rulli is going through a bit of a rough patch, but he never has a bad attitude. He's never lazy, he's professional. He can make mistakes. He's been performing miracles for a year and a half, but that doesn't mean De Lange can't play.
The draw
Lens is stronger than Bruges. It's not a question of the draw. Lens is second and deserves to be there. We beat Lens and then played badly against Nantes. We can lose or qualify against anyone.
Amine Gouiri
I'm happy with him, he played well. He missed a goal, I would have killed him... I didn't like his performance at PFC, I told him that. He needs to raise his expectations of himself. He's a very strong player.
The four-man formation
I try to put the players in the positions that suit them best. Against Bruges, they didn't really have any defenders. The third goal came because of the difference in speed. The difference comes from the mindset. When the mindset is right, we're very strong, whether we're playing with three or four. When we're like we were against Bruges or Nantes, it doesn't change much.
PSG-OM
I believe PSG is the strongest team in Europe. I sincerely believe that. Words are just words. We have to go out on the pitch hungry, with more quality than we showed tonight. We have to have the ambition to win in Paris. Everyone has to have that.
