Jacques Abardonado's reaction after his team's draw at the Orange Vélodrome against RC Strasbourg on matchday 22 of the 2025-2026 McDonald's Ligue 1 season.

The last quarter of an hour

It's a recurring theme. It's the same scenario as against Paris FC. We have to lift our heads up, even if it's difficult and tricky. But we have no choice.

Nervousness

When we switch to five at the back, it's to protect the result and play a midfield block. It wasn't about sitting back, we didn't want to play a low block, but as we did throughout the match.

The mindset

I don't know how they felt about it. My goal was to prepare the team as best I could for this match. The players were good this week. The players had been playing under the former coach for between 6 and 18 months, so it's normal to see some mistakes.

The penalty

Nervousness and fatigue led to the penalty.

A struggling team

Perhaps not struggling, but in difficulty. We need to help them. We mustn't give up. We need to start afresh, which is easy to say but difficult to do. If we start looking back, it's dizzying.

The reception from the crowd

I didn't pay attention to the banners. It's difficult, I understand the supporters' anger. They come to the stadium for entertainment and to win matches. It's a waste tonight. We should have won 2-1, we should have killed off the game. I understand the fans' disappointment.

Interim or not?

I can't tell you. We had to prepare the team to get a positive result against Strasbourg. As for my future, you'll have to ask Pablo and Medhi.

A mental issue

For a footballer, 80% of their potential is in their head. The players are affected. It's psychological. We have to keep working because the mind plays a part in races, in training...

Until the end of the season

If Pablo and Medhi tell me to continue my mission, I will do so very willingly. If my staff and I have to go to Brest, I will abide by the decision.
