Our coach Roberto De Zerbi's reaction at the press conference following OM's draw away to LOSC in the last match of the 32nd round of the 2024-2025 McDonald's Ligue 1 season.

Adrien Rabiot's performance

He was brought on to alternate defensive duties with Mason Greenwood. Mason played one of his best games, if not his best game in an OM shirt. Whether he had the ball or not, he gave his all. He has many different characteristics compared to Adrien. When you're lucky enough to have Adrien Rabiot in the team with his intellectual qualities, his running and his legs, it helps to compensate a little for the difficulties Greenwood can have, as he can tire himself out a bit too much. Ismaily and Gudmundsson are quality players, which is why this decision was made.

Any regrets?

These things happen, that's football. It saddens me because it was a silly goal. Geoffrey Kondogbia was free, he could have passed to Højbjerg. I've watched the footage again, if Rulli had passed the ball to Højbjerg, we wouldn't have taken any risks. These things happen. I'm very proud of Rulli. If we're second, it's partly thanks to him. It can happen to him as it can to others. When you come to Lille with that personality, the desire to control the whole game, these things can happen. Mistakes are also part of the journey.

The team dynamic

Rome did us good. Before Rome, the atmosphere was the opposite. The atmosphere in the dressing room was different. I don't know if we'll go back, we have to decide with the players and the club. I don't have any other commitments, we can go to Rome or New York or stay locked up all week...

Amine Gouiri

He's starting to realise what a great number 9 he can be. He's a complete player, fantastic, the prototype number 9. He has all the qualities you need: he scores, he moves well, he's good in one-on-one situations and he works hard without the ball... He's a really complete player and a very good person.

A better OM at a key moment

It's always the mind that changes things, that moves people. It's not football or the system. We've played some very good games with three at the back, and we may go back to that system. The important thing is that we took the time to be together. Marseille is a difficult place. It's not Lille or other quieter places. Being together has been important and decisive. We set out to find the spirit we need to have not only against Lille or Brest but from the beginning to the end of the season, without a break. It's those breaks that came a little too often during the season. It's normal, it was the beginning of our work together, we started this season. Last year, OM finished eighth, there were a lot of new players arriving, but there were mental breakdowns, which were tough and had a significant impact. These are things that shouldn't happen if we want to move forward throughout the season. But it can happen, we have to keep this mindset in decisive matches, where the pressure is high, where the ball can weigh heavily, otherwise we can't play for OM.
