Melissa Herrera joins Les Marseillaises
Born on 10 October 1996 in Pérez Zeledón (Costa Rica), Melissa Herrera took her first steps in the world of football in 2012 with AD Moravia, where she played for four seasons as a striker. In 2016, she joined FC Indiana in the United States, before signing a year later with Independiente Santa Fe, where she won the Colombian championship title.
Her speed and technical skills earned her a move to Europe, where she joined Stade de Reims in 2018. With the Rémoises, she played three seasons in D1 Arkema, scoring 18 goals. In June 2021, Melissa joined Girondins de Bordeaux. Wearing the navy blue and white jersey, she played in 28 matches, including three in the Women's Champions League.
After four years in the French first division, La Tica continued her career in 2023 in Mexico with Xolos de Tijuana, where she demonstrated her versatility by playing as a left wing-back.
A key member of the Costa Rican national team, with whom she has played in two World Cups and earned 60 caps, Melissa Herrera returns to France and signs with Olympique de Marseille, ready to put her experience and talent to good use for Frédéric Gonçalves' team.
