Maria Thorisdottir joins les Marseillaises !
Born on 5 June 1993 in Stavanger, Norway, Maria began her professional career in the Norwegian first division with Klepp IL, where she quickly established herself as a promising young defender. After several seasons in her native country, she took a major step forward in 2017 when she joined English club Chelsea.
With the Blues, the Norwegian discovered the very highest level of European football, playing in several Champions League matches and winning two English Premier League titles, an FA Cup, a League Cup and a Community Shield.
In January 2021, she continued her career in England by signing for Manchester United, where she strengthened the Red Devils' defence for more than two seasons before joining Brighton & Hove Albion in August 2023 to continue her adventure in the Barclays Women's Super League, a renowned competition in which she has made 86 appearances.
An experienced Norwegian international, Maria played for all of Norway's youth teams before making 71 appearances for the senior team and even becoming captain. A stalwart of the Midnight Sun country, the robust defender has even played in two World Cups and two European Championships, confirming her status as a defensive reference point at international level.
A player of remarkable intelligence and a defensive rock, she now brings all her experience and rigour to the Olympique team for the return of OM Féminines to the Arkema Première Ligue.
