'Capitale du Foot': A fourth pitch inaugurated
Olympique de Marseille and Treizième Homme have inaugurated a new pitch as part of the ‘Capitale du Foot’ project, continuing their commitment to developing sports in all neighbourhoods of Marseille.
At the heart of the Weygand multisport complex, an outdoor futsal pitch approved by the FFF has been refurbished thanks to the joint efforts of Treizième Homme, the City of Marseille, the CMA CGM Foundation and the Mediterranean League. Used daily by the Minots de Marseille club, this space has now been given a new lease of life and a stronger purpose: to offer residents a place for sport, meeting and sharing.
The inauguration was attended by Olympique de Marseille President Pablo Longoria, Marseille Mayor Benoît Payan, and Ligue Méditerranée President Éric Borghini, who symbolically marked the launch of the pitch with a ceremonial kick-off of a friendly match between OM's U17 team and Les Minots de Marseille.
Launched in the summer of 2023, ‘Capitale du Foot’ has already restored three iconic pitches: Place de la Major, Julien Baudon Stadium in Vauban, and the Friche la Belle de Mai pitch. With Weygand, the initiative continues to grow and pursue its goal of making a lasting investment in every neighbourhood of Marseille.
Other renovations are already planned, including a new inauguration scheduled for the coming weeks. With Capitale du Foot, Olympique de Marseille and Treizième Homme are reaffirming their desire to be more than just a club: they want to be a key player in Marseille life, serving young people and the well-being of all.
